My Pastor And Leaders
“And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.” — Jeremiah 3:15
It is hard to calculate the effect and the eternal significance of a faithful pastor who shepherds the local church. In the Bible days you could always tell who the faithful shepherds were, because they were never far away from their flocks. They watched over them day and night. Leading, feeding and protecting them. Finding stray sheep when they wandered off and mending them when they were hurt. The shepherds smelled like the sheep they tended and if you look close on their arms and legs you will notice scars. Not just a few scars but many. Why the scars you ask? Sheep bite. They bite the very hand that feeds them.
When God refereed to us as the sheep of His pasture, it was not all that flattering. Sheep can not live in the wild like other animals. They are dependent upon a shepherd to feed and protect them. Shepherds are God’ sgift to His church to lead, feed and protect His people. He raises up shepherds and gives them His heart for you and what you need to grow. Think of someone you really honor… I mean really honor. Now double that honor and give that to your pastor. “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honor…” 1 Timothy 5:17
