Prophetic Voice

“If the trumpet does not give a clear call, who will get ready for battle.” –1 Cor 14:8

“A striking feature of our time is that so few of the voices in the pulpits of America have a distinctive message. There is a painful lack of a clear word of authority for the times. While there are many good preachers of the Gospel, and while we are not without champions of the vital verities of the Faith, we are sadly in need of the Prophet with his “Thus saith the Lord”, which he has received in a commission born of a peculiarly chastened fellowship with God.” – T. Austin-Sparks

In our culture today there is an obsessive preoccupation with the future. This is linked to the worries of global issues that seem to grow worse with every news cycle. Fear and uncertainty has caused an increase hunger in both the church and the world for direction and guidance in these confusing days. If there was ever a time for the prophetic voice to be heard in pulpits of America it is now.

The Old Testament Prophets spoke to the issues of their day with uncompromising authority and clarity calling a nation to God. These are the days of Elijah. Pastors and Christian leaders are the Elijah’ of our day. May they rise up in this hour and fulfill the word “If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles (prophets) of God…” 1 Peter 4:11
