The Open Door of Destruction
“But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.” –Revelation 2:14
Balaam was a prophet who counseled Balak on the most effective way to bring Israel under judgment and for them to be defeated. This was through seduction, using Moabite and Midianite women to tempt the Israelites into sexual relationships and into pagan rituals. It was an effective strategy that had a deadly effect upon the nation.
This counsel is called the “doctrine of Balaam”. It is the same plan the enemy is using in our nation today. The strategy of the enemy is to turn your heart in opposition to God and bring you in line with God’s judgments. One of the most effective means is through sexual immorality. The strategy is the same for our nation. Is it working? The obvious answer is yes.
We are the first generation to be confronted with a global assault of pornography. The “pornification” of our culture is having a devastating effect in America and in the church. In the church, a survey conducted over the past five years revealed that 68 percent of Christian men and 50 percent of pastors view pornography regularly. But even more shocking is that 11-17 year-old boys reported being its greatest users.
America is leading the way in the production of pornography which is now a $97 billion world-wide industry. About 89% of all porn is produced in America and distributed around the world. This is an open door that is bringing destruction to families and individuals and is one of our national sins.
